Every day, we focus on doing three things.
We make delicious, nutritious food from scratch using locally grown and made ingredients whenever possible.
We create quality jobs and opportunities for growth for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
We give back to the community. We donate our profits to Special Olympics of Northern California to support their work expanding inclusive sports and health programs in our region.
Who We Are
Sweet Savory and Special was co-founded by Lillian Calahan Klein and her mom, Rebecca Calahan Klein in 2026.
Lillian is a culinary artist, an entrepreneur and a Special Olympics athlete, Health Messenger and Athlete Leader. She created Sweet Savory and Special because she loves making beautiful food and creating opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to work in the hospitality industry. She is a dedicated Special Olympian who swims and plays soccer. She deeply appreciates the opportunities to compete in sports, enhance health and develop leadership skills that Special Olympics provides in Northern California and in communities across America and the world.
Rebecca is a long-time social entrepreneur, who helps build companies and non-profit organizations that help build a more sustainable, inclusive and equitable world. She loves making and sharing food that celebrates the beauty and diversity of communities, local farms and ecosystems found in Northern California. She enjoys hiking, long-distance walking, reading, and volunteering.
What We Do
We are an East Bay catering company making fresh, healthy food for sale at Special Olympics events and competitions. We also make food for events ranging from company meetings to community picnics to special family celebrations.

We focus on breakfast and lunch items.

- Egg bites with seasonal vegetables and herbs
- Avocado toast
- French toast cups
- Yogurt parfaits with seasonal fruit and house made granola
- Muffins and scones
- Sandwiches featuring house made breads, spreads and healthy proteins
- Seasonal salads
- Fresh vegetables with ranch dressing or hummus
- Cookies and brownies
- Popsicles
We also make food for special occasions including:
- Challah
- Birthday cakes and cupcakes
- Desserts for special occasions
